New Single Incision LAP-BAND® Weight Loss Surgery
Bariatric surgeon, Dr. Sashi Ganta of Austin, Texas, is said to have performed the first trans-umbilical LAP-BAND® weight loss surgery in the state of Texas with no visible scar on Tuesday, September 9, 2008. Dr. Ganta pioneered this surgery with virtually no scarring, by laparoscopic incision via the belly button.
Now patients hoping to have lap band surgery can be nearly scar free with this single incision option, which was featured recently on the Today Show. The new technique, Trans-umbilical Gastric banding (TUGB), will possibly improve healing and recovery time as well as a better cosmetic result (no scars).
